This craftsman-inspired home was designed for a community called Breakaway, north of Asheville, North Carolina. Stone, wood shake siding, standing-seam metals roofs, bracketed gables and exposed rafter tails add rustic charm to the exterior. Designed by Allison Ramsey Architects, the house features 2,097 sq. ft., 3 bedrooms and 4 baths.
The kitchen, dining room and Great Room flow seamlessly, giving an airy, open feel to the main level and making entertaining a breeze. A cheery sunroom can double as a home office or playroom. Multiple sets of French doors lead outside to the roomy, wraparound porch. Enjoy the double fireplace year-round from inside or out. Thoughtful design ensures that not an inch of space is wasted upstairs. The bedrooms are accessed from a central hallway. Each has a private, attached bathroom. The master bedroom features views in three directions.

Bill Allison founded the firm Allison Ramsey Architects, Inc. with the guiding principles of customer service, a collaborative approach to design, and architectural philosophy rooted in tradition. Early on, Allison and partners Cooter Ramsey and Bill Harris, were determined to learn the local "Beaufort" vernacular and design homes that, although contemporary, were obviously meant to be built in Beaufort. There’s also a commitment to the idea that good residential architecture should be available to everyone, not just those people that can afford to hire an architect for custom services. "Our first opportunity came when a builder client connected the house that we designed for him to the Southern Living team and our house was picked to be the second HGTV Dream Home Giveaway house in 1998," recalls Allison. "That house, the Bermuda Bluff Cottage (plan #254) was, and is still, very popular and it was that design that sealed our relationship with Southern Living for the next 18 years and counting."
