Description
Adapted from a 19th-century plantation house in Iberville Parish, Louisiana, this plan retains the simple massing of the original. The gabled roof, with deep overhangs, and shading galleries front and rear translate conventional Southern ideas of comfort and classic style.
Interior rooms are thoughtfully proportioned and spacious. Each floor has more than 1,500 square feet of heated space, for a total heated square footage of about 3,100. Galleries provide almost 1,500 additional square feet of warm-weather living space. Living areas occupy the downstairs.
Both the living room and the family room include traditional fireplaces. The formal dining room features an adjoining service pantry, while the kitchen includes a break-fast area large enough to handle any informal family meals.
Upstairs, a large master bedroom includes its own fireplace and a spacious bath with walk-in closet. Two additional bedrooms share a second upstairs bath. The laundry room is functionally located to serve upstairs bedrooms and baths.
Designed by William H. Phillips.
