Description
Some of the South's prettiest homes were built along the rivers and bayous of Louisiana. In most cases, they were also practical homes, built with as much regard for comfort as for good looks. Our own Louisiana Classic home continues this tradition. A flexible floor plan allows it to be built at two different square footages; for convenience, the plan has been adapted for one story. The smaller version includes 3 bedrooms and 2-1/2 baths in about 2,580 square feet of heated space. By expanding the kitchen and master bedroom wings, the plan may be enlarged to include about 2,900 square feet. French doors and long casements work with covered galleries to cool and ventilate the house. Both windows and doors are fan topped in the classic style, and those opening to the front gallery are flanked by graceful, round shutters. A balustrade atop the central portion of the roof borders an oversize skylight that brings light to the core of the house. A center hall foyer features freestanding columns that divide the formal living and dining rooms. A cross hall leads to the master bedroom and kitchen wings at opposite ends of the plan. Construction drawings give details for both versions of the home. Plans also detail a small latticed summer house and a detached garage.
Designed by William H. Phillips.
