DESCRIPTION

Its inspiration is classical, but clean lines and smooth finishes give our Classic Villa plan a contemporary feeling. Simple yet sophisticated, its one-level design is comfortably elegant. The H-shaped, double-courtyard plan allows major rooms to open to light, fresh air, and garden views. In addition, the entry and rear arbor courts offer spacious, fair-weather living areas. Exterior walls are of light-colored stucco with architectural trim in white. A pedimented wall with latticed windows screens the planted entry court from the street.

The house is entered by stages, with a raised terrace, entry court, and gallery welcoming guests inside. The living room is at the center of the plan. Four freestanding columns underscore the room's classical look and frame views into the dining room and hall. The hall has a wall niche for spotlighting a piece of art or a family collection. French doors in the living room flank a traditional fireplace and lead to the arbor courtyard outside. Covered with a trellis, it can be planted for dense shade or left open to catch patterned sunlight. Or, it can be glassed to create a solarium or garden room. The library can be converted to either a third bedroom or a guestroom by expanding the powder room into a full bath. (A conversion plan is included with our working drawings.)
